The deep quilt of the Bubinga tops of these tables reminds me of waves on Puget Sound.

In these tables I'm using wide inlaid bands and triangles of quilted maple to give the table form
and unity beyond the terse structural lines. The inlay banding is wide (1/4") so that is has a
visual impact at a distance. I used the inlaid triangles as abstract "feet" for the piece. The rich,
red color and figure of the Bubinga also adds a richness and interest far beyond the simple,
    basic lines of the design.
The "Floating Table" uses a strong contrast between the light maple and dark red-brown
Sapele as well as the negative space between the legs and top to create a top that seems to
float above the legs. I connected the legs and top in an unusual way and the resulting shapes
from the bevels and dovetails created a lot of interest on their own.

Angel step quilted maple and Sapele.
24" x 24" x 21" high
The "South Beach" table was inspired by the architectural features of the Art Deco buildings in South
Beach, Florida. The aprons, legs and shelf all use a three step feature common among those buildings.
The drama of this form is emphasized by a parallel inlay of quilted maple banding punctuated by inlaid
    squares of maple.

Can form capture motion in furniture? The simple lines of the "Dancer" table were inspired by the stance
    of a ballerina en pointe.
